A while ago, I talked about Mint mobile cheap phone plan for seniors on an article. The thing is it is not unusual for phone networks to have senior discounts for the elderly. Although some young working class adults are not aware of this, you could get senior discounts for your parents and grandparents.
I cannot tell how convenient this is for people taking care of the elderly in their families. Discounted phone plans for seniors help us connect to our loved ones more. They still get to talk to us without spending too much on their phone bills.
Personally, this was an issue for grandparents and me when I first moved away from home. The cost of an international call for my parents and grandparents was so much, it deterred us from talking to one another as often. Sometimes, I wished badly we had these kind of affordable cell phone plans for seniors over 65 years in my native country.
Perhaps, I would have talked more to my grandparents before they passed on. This is especially my maternal grandmother- who left a great impression on me that shaped how I approach challenges in life. God bless her soul!
Anyways, I am going to show you the best cellular plans for seniors in this article. Hopefully, it helps you save money for the elderly in your families so you could stay in touch with them. Having said that, here is what I want you to know below.
Best Phone Plans For Seniors
Firstly, I do not believe there is any reason why elderly folks should be paying the same phone bills as the young working class. This is especially, when they are retired and on a fixed income. High phone bills could eat into their fixed income, hence the need for senior discount or affordable phone plans. So, which carrier has the best plan for seniors?
1. Mint Mobile Plan For Seniors
— Mint Mobile for seniors
| 3 months plan | 6 months plan | 12 months plan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5GB monthly | $15 monthly, but you pay $45 upfront. | $20 monthly, but one-time $120 upfront payment. | $15 per month, but one time payment of $180 upfront. |
| 15GB monthly | $20 monthly, but you pay $60 upfront | $25 monthly, but one-time payment $150 upfront payment. | $20 per month. You pay $240 upfront one time. |
| 20GB monthly | $25 monthly. You pay | $35 per month. $210 upfront payment for | $25 per month, but $300 upfront one time. |
One of the most reliable and best cell phone plans for seniors around is Mint mobile. I always praise this carrier, because it is designed for average working class adults on mind. Also, they have discounted senior plans specially for senior folks who want phone bills that do not occur monthly.
So, what is special about it?
Well, Mint mobile offers prepaid plans for seniors. You can get as low as $45 for a three month plan. The three month plan comes with 5GB of internet data. The $45 is paid upfront. After the three months are over, you can renew for 6, 8 and 12 months to saving the same money.
To qualify to use mint mobile plan for seniors, you do not have to be 65 years. You just have to be 55 years and above. If you are not 55 years yet, the cellular network still has other affordable plans for you to get. You get to use your current phone and number on Mint mobile too.
2. Total Wireless
Total wireless is another cell phone carrier I would recommend to seniors. It has three phone plans, but I am going to talk about their cheapest cell phone plan. This is the Total Base 5G Unlimited, where you get to pay $40 monthly for cellphone service.
What do I like about it, my dear?
— Total Wireless
| What I Want You To Know | |
|---|---|
| Cost | $40 per month |
| Hot spot data | 5 GB |
| International Roaming | You can make international calls to +85 countries, while texting +200 countries. Roaming to Mexico and Canada are available. |
| Network connectivity | Unlimited data |
As you can see from the above, it is better than most cellular networks. I know I used to pay $70 monthly for Cricket phone plan before I switched to Spectrum. You can save a lot monthly with the above phone plan. This is especially, when you are on a budget.
Read How Total Wireless Plan Save You Money article, where I elaborated more on this carrier. That way, you get to decide whether it meets your needs.
3. Visible
Visible cellular network makes the list. This is because it has one of the cheapest cellular plans for seniors. Now, Visible does not run a senior discount program, but it has affordable mobile deals I want to talk about. This is especially, for any senior out there trying to minimize the cost of monthly phone bills.
What you need to know about Visible, my dear reader?
Visible has three mobile plans. You can get anything from $25 to $45 monthly. Also, you are given the option of a one-time annual payment for the phone plan you choose. For the elderly person who does not keep up with phone bill due date, this is a great option. This is since you can just make a one-time payment for a whole year without worrying about repeating bills for a long time.
Here is what to expect below.
— VISIBLE
| Visible | Visible Plus | Visible Plus Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | $25 monthly, or $275 annual plan to save $25 per year. | $35 per month, or $375 annual plan to save $45 per year. | $45 monthly. Or, you can choose the $450 annual plan to save $90 per year. |
| Mobile hot spot | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| International texting | Unlimited calls and texts to Canada and Mexico | Unlimited text, call and data to Mexico and Canada | Unlimited call, data and text to Mexico and Canada |
| Internet plan | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Global Pass | Global pass costs about $5 per day | 1 day Global pass per month. Then, you can get a full one if you want. | 2 day Global pass per month. Then, you can get a full one if you want. |
| Texts and calls | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Home internet | $15 discount | $15 discount | $15 discount |
I would advise you to get the annual plan. This is because it saves you some money. I know the monthly cost of Visible plans are affordable compared to its mobile peers, but you could save more with annual plans.
Just throwing it out there.
Finally, the best thing about this mobile network is you can try it for free for 15 days. Within these 15 days, you are not going to be charged for it. If you do not like it, you can go back to your original network with no penalty.
I am not going to lie to you, Visible is one of my favorite networks out there. This is because it works on the backbone of Verizon- a great network that covers nationwide. By the way, I cannot afford Verizon because it is freaking expensive. So, having Visible is as close as one gets to Verizon with the same benefits and less monthly bill.
Try it first. If you do not like it, then change to your previous network. But, I have a feeling you will appreciate this network.
4. Spectrum
Spectrum does not offer a 55+ plan like Mint mobile. However, I want to include Spectrum on this list. This is because it is my current network. I currently pay $45 monthly. This bill includes my phone bill and home wifi.
Can you believe it?
It is how much I am currently paying for home wifi and phone bill. The best part of it is I get to call people internationally at no additional cost. The internet plan is unlimited too. I think I get to pay $45, because I bundled my WIFI and phone bill together.
This is coming from someone who used to be a Cricket customer. I would pay $70 monthly for my phone bill at Cricket, while paying $55 to AT&T for my home wifi. Stumbling on Spectrum at my local grocery store was luck, but since then I cannot help but be grateful for the savings.
I think Spectrum offers one of the best cell phone plans for seniors. It does not have a senior discount program as previously mentioned, however it offers two phone plans: Unlimited and Unlimited Plus at $30 and $40 monthly respectively. Both plans have unlimited talk, data and text. If you bundle your home wifi with your phone network, perhaps you get to pay $45 monthly like I do.
5. Straight Talk

Straight Talk does not have a senior discount plan. I consider it one of the best phone plans for seniors. This is because it falls within the range of what I think it is affordable for retired senior citizens.
What do these plans look like, good reader?
Straight Talk has four phone plans, but I am only going to discuss the two which will save money for seniors on a budget. First one is the Bronze plan, which costs $35 monthly. The second is the Silver unlimited plan, which costs $45 per month. The other two cost $55 and $65 respectively.
Personally, I think all the plans offer the same unlimited texts and calls. Unless you want the Walmart membership which comes with the $55 and $65 plans, you can get the same cellular benefits with the $45 per month phone plans. But, I want you to go through it and see which one will meet your needs.
6. Flex Mobile
I consider Flex mobile to be one of the cell phone carriers for seniors on a budget due to its affordability. It has a phone plan for as low as $16 a month. It is cheap, is it not?
Although I consider this particular plan one of the best basic cell phone plans for seniors, it still does what a person needs it to do. You get to make call and text on it. The only problem is you only get 5GB of Internet data. 5GB is a problem, when you are an ardent internet user.
And, that takes me to the other two plans Flex mobile offers. You have the Unlimited and the Unlimited Plus. They cost $29 and $44 per month respectively. These are still not bad compared to T-mobile and Verizon plans for seniors which are about $60 or more monthly.
The thing with Flex mobile is it is always running offers. Below is one of the current ones going on.

As you can see, Flex mobile has the lowest price seniors phone plans. Just be sure to make sure there is availability of service in your location before getting any of the plans. The last thing you want is to suffer network difficulties. I feel like it will defeat the purpose of switching to a cheaper phone plan.
On the whole, the above cell phone plans for seniors will save you a great deal of money. Most of these carriers have compatibility and coverage verification on their websites. You can just check your zip code or city to make sure you have coverage in your part of the country. That way, you can enjoy the mobile service while saving a great deal of money.
