6 Best Cheap Phone Plans For Frugal Adults

I once had a conversation with a friend of mine who was paying a $120 monthly as her phone bill. It was hard to fathom what kind of benefits would warrant such an outrageous cost. This is especially in an era where one could find some of the best cheap phone plans in the nation for a quarter the price.

How do I know this for a fact, my good reader?

Well, I paid $65 monthly for about 10 years with Cricket. It came with an international phone call plan add on, which lets me talk to family members all over Europe and Africa. Also, it came with unlimited internet plan. As long as the reoccurring monthly payment was set on Auto, I did not pay more than $65.

Then, I learned Spectrum offered the same coverage and benefits for $15. I had to jump ship. The funny part of it is, Spectrum is a network most people I know hate. But, I have not had any issue with it yet. In fact, my house WIFI and my phone plans are bundled at Spectrum. My phone bill comes out to $45 monthly.

As a result, I am saving an extra $240 annually. This is not bad at all, is it?

There are better and cheaper phone plans than what I am currently on right now. I am talking cheap phone plans which will cost you less $45 per month. I am going to be talking about them on this article. You just have to know go through them to see which one meets your needs.

The Best Cheap Phone Data Under $45 Per Month

Below are what I want you to know about these cheap phone plans. I found reliable ones under $45 monthly, so you could save a few hundred dollars annually on phone bills.

1. Flex Mobile

Flex mobile is one of the lowest cost mobile plans. It is so cheap anyone could afford it. Also, it comes in three mobile plans. They are standard, unlimited and unlimited+ phone plans.

The best part of these plans are their affordability. Standard phone plan alone costs about $15 per month. The only downside to the standard plan is the limited internet data, no international call and automatic mobile hot spot with it.

I have made a table below to further elaborate what to expect with Flex mobile.

As you can see from the above, you save $14 with the Unlimited plan. Furthermore, you can save $5 monthly when you decide to go with the Unlimited Plus plan. This one will give everything a major cellular network would give you. Personally, I think it is best for a big internet user who has family or friends abroad.

The sign up process is very easy. If you already have a phone number and phone, you can still use them on this network. The only thing changing is you will be using this network, instead of your former network. That is one thing convenient about these cheap phone plans popping up nowadays.

2. Mint Mobile

On Is Mint Mobile Plans For Wireless Savings article, I talked about how Mint mobile is one of the cheapest phone plans around. Its mobile plans were designed with the young working class adults on mind. I kid you – the phone plans range from $15 to $30 monthly.

It sounds too good to be true, but this is one of the best savers for adults trying to save money. So, what do the Mint Plans come with?

They come with unlimited talk and text with high speed internet. I am talking about 5G network, depending on your phone’s compatibility. Also, you can talk to Canada, Mexico and the UK for free without extra international call charges. Each plan comes with a mobile hotspot. You get up to 20GB for mobile hotspot.

How Do Mint Mobile Plans Work?

The thing with Mint plans is you have to buy it in bulk. What do I mean by buying in bulk, good reader?

The phone plans are prepaid. You do not have to pay monthly. Mint offers 3, 6 and 12 month plans. You will get charged $180 for the 12 months plan. Its 12 month prepaid plan amounts to $15 monthly, but you pay this in full for 12 months. Once you purchase the plan, you will not worry about paying again until the end of 12 months.

Below is a summary of what Mint plans look like.

— Mint Mobile

It is hard to beat these prices. They are designed to keep young working class adults from the anxiety of anticipated phone bill. Hence, why I like its prepaid structure.

3. Straight Talk

Straight Talk is another prepaid phone plan which is cheap. It is owned by Verizon, so you get access to Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G network structure. Additionally, there are four straight talk unlimited prepaid plans. But, I am only going to talk one.

I will talk about straight talk the $45 per month phone plan. This is because it is affordable and unlimited. It is designed for young working class adults like you and me.

Below is what I want you to know about this plan.

I recommend trying it out for three months before deciding to go long term. This is because you do not want to be stuck with a network you do not like for months. Since this is owned by Verizon, I expect it to have the same connectivity standards as Verizon.

4. Spectrum

I was not going to neglect Spectrum. This is because it is my current phone network and home WIFI service. Although a lot of my friends and acquaintances hate it, I never had any issue with it since I switched to it.

What do I like about it, my dear reader?

Let us say I am only paying $45 monthly for my WIFI and phone plan. I like it better than Cricket, which I used for 10 years. If you are looking to bundle home internet, cable and phone plans on the same network, Spectrum is the right network for you.

Spectrum has two cheap phone plans with unlimited data. They are unlimited and unlimited plus plans with each costing $30 and $40 per month respectively. So, how do I get to pay $15 monthly for phone bill?

When I got signed up for Spectrum, I was given a year deal where I will pay $15 monthly. This is because I was already using their WIFI. Prior to the bundle, my WIFI costed me $30 monthly. With this new deal, my total bill is $45 per month.

Here is what else I want you to know about the two Spectrum mobile plans.

UnlimitedUnlimited Plus

International calls to other countriesYou get 2000 minutes to Canada and Mexico. Pay per use for other 190 countriesYou get 2000 minutes to Canada and Mexico. Pay per use for other 190 countries

I disagree on the pay per use international call for 190 countries. I have been calling extended family members all over Europe and Africa for no additional cost. If you are looking into a cheap phone plan with the above benefit, then Spectrum will save you a lot of money.

5. Visible

Visible is one of the cheap phone plans with no contract. What this means, is you can get out of the phone network whenever you want. You will not be penalized.

Visible is owned by Verizon. It has three cheap phone plans under $35 monthly. They are visible, visible+ and visible+ Pro.

The plans are set up in a way, where you either pay for your phone bill monthly or prepaid it for a year. Below, I have condensed the features you are going to be getting with these three phone plans.

Currently, the network is running a Christmas season discount. The above prices above, are the regular monthly cost of getting a phone plan with Visible. I did not write the discounted prices for their Christmas season, since these discounted prices tend to change a lot. Use the Shop Now to explore what they have for you.

6. Cricket

I am going to include Cricket to this list of best cheap phone plans. This is because I used it for ten years, before I switched to Spectrum. And sincerely speaking, I like it.

Cricket has three phone plans for any frugal adult using just one line. They are select unlimited, smart unlimited and supreme unlimited. I will be talking to you about the first two. This is because those two are under $45 monthly, when you set your phone bill to auto payment.

— Cricket

When I was with Cricket, I used their supreme unlimited. It was about $65 monthly, but you get for $55 initially. I never regretted using this phone plan. I jumped ship because Spectrum was giving exactly the same benefits for more than half the price. So, I definitely recommend Cricket to any frugal adult trying to save money on his or her phone bill.

On the whole, these are the best cheap mobile phone plans for frugal adults. You can save hundreds of dollars annually with one of them. I know this for a fact, because I am saving $240 after I switched from Cricket to Spectrum. The best part of it, is I am still getting the same satisfaction. But hey, I encourage you go with what meets your personal needs.
