Can You Use Chime SpotMe At An ATM?

When Chime rolled out its SpotMe feature, I knew its service had the working class on mind. This is because some young working class adults like us need financial help in this state of economy. It is worthwhile to mention not only can you borrow money from Chime, but also use Chime SpotMe at an ATM. For any young working class adult struggling, we all know a little cash goes further when it is most needed.

Am I right?

Well today, I am going to talk about how to get money from Chime SpotMe using an ATM. This includes the amount you are allowed to cash out, plus any other necessary information I would like you to know prior to using this service.

Before I begin though, let us reiterate what you and me know about ChimeSpot. If you have read, How To Use Chime SpotMe article, skip the next section. Otherwise, here is a summary of what I would like to know about SpotMe before using it.

How Does SpotMe Work On Chime?

Chime SpotMe is an overdraft feature by Chime. It is designed for you to overdraft your checking account, whenever you need extra money. Not only overdraft, but also borrow to pay for goods and services when you do not have enough for them. This is without being charged a fee for cashing out the loan.

Chime SpotMe limit is $200. As previously mentioned, one thing I like about this, is the overdraft does not cost you a thing. I mean you would have to pay it back eventually, but there is no borrowing fee with it.

The only requirement to qualify for this, is to have a monthly direct deposit of $200 or more. Also, activating a Chime card is another qualifying factor. As soon as you accept the terms and conditions of usage, you will be enrolled. You can start using the SpotMe feature through the Chime card.

Now to the point at hand, does SpotMe cover ATM?

Does SpotMe Work At ATM?

SpotMe works at ATM as long as you have a Chime debit card. This is because you are going to need the debit card to be able to do your cash withdrawal. So, how do you go about this?

Well, just go to any one of these best Chime ATMs to withdraw cash instantly. As long as it is Chime affiliated ATM, you will not be charged a fee. Fee-free ATM withdrawals are only for in-network ATMs. If you look at the above highlighted article, I talked about where you could find these ATMs in your city.

Speaking of out-of-network ATM fee, you will be charged $2 fee plus whatever other fee the 3rd party ATM charges for service. I know- it is outrageous. Hence, why I recommend sticking to Chime in-network ATMs.

Lastly, I want you to be aware about transaction decline at the ATM place. Chime will decline your cash withdrawal, when you try to overdraft more than what is your SpotMe limit. If you are going to use an out-of-network ATM, just be sure the fees will not eat into your overdraft rendering your balance less than your withdrawal amount.

As long as your SpotMe feature is on, Chime automatically spots you some cash whenever you try to withdraw from an ATM. This is especially, when you are trying to withdraw more than your account balance. It is worthwhile to note cash spotting stays within your Chime SpotMe limits.

Chime SpotMe ATM Withdrawal Limit

Chime SpotMe ATM withdrawal limit starts at $20 and it goes up to $200. It all depends on what your limit is, when you sign up for SpotMe feature. Everyone has different limits depending on Chime usage. Be sure to stay within your limit, so your ATM transactions will not be declined. This is the only Chime SpotMe rule at ATM I want you to constantly be aware of, to avoid embarassment.

What Else Does SpotMe Cover?

Chime SpotMe not only cover ATM withdrawals, but also other forms of cash withdrawals. These include the following below:

  • Cash backs at registers.
  • Over-the-counter withdrawals

All you need for these is just your activated Chime card. If your card is not activated yet, read the Chime card activation online article on how to go about it. You cannot do cash withdrawal from Chime SpotMe without an activated card. So, I recommend you take care of that first.

Furthermore, just because Chime spots you money does not mean the fund is available for all kinds of transactions. There are some transactions you are not allowed to do with this kind of fund. You cannot use Chime SpotMe for the following below:

  • Transfers to your savings account.
  • Bills- reoccurring subscriptions or monthly payments.
  • Check payments
  • Pay anyone feature transfers
  • Investments
  • Transfers to other third party apps like Chime. These include Venmo, Cash App, PayPal and the rest.

I believe it, this is to prevent a few bad eggs amongst my fellow working class adults from abusing the SpotMe feature. We all know in a system like this one, there are always some people looking to bite more than they could chew. The above restriction makes it hard to abuse the system.

Otherwise, SpotMe will cover an ATM overdraft or withdraw without issues. You just have to stick within its terms and conditions, so a cash withdrawal will not get declined. And please, do not ruin it for the rest of us.

What I Think About Using Chime SpotMe At ATMs

Well, it is easy to withdraw SpotMe money from Chime. However, it depends on whether you are doing it on in-network ATMs. Otherwise, the third party ATMs will charge you for using them. This is besides Chime asking you for $2 for out-of-network cash withdrawals.

So my thoughts- try to use it, when it is your last option. This is because there are better apps out there which can give you access to a lot of cash without the fees or issues. Particularly, those that let you cash out their loans at ATMs with their debit cards.

In case you are looking for other apps that will let you borrow or withdraw more, I recommend using CashApp to borrow money. It is actually my favorite cash advance app, since its loan repayment is flexible.

You could get up to $800 with CashApp, but my current borrowing limit is $150. As I mentioned on the personal review I wrote about it, I do not mind this limit since it lets me be financially responsible. But hey, that is me. You do what makes your life easier as a young working class adult.

On the whole, I would not discount Chime entirely though. It designed its SpotMe with the working class on Mind. I just think it could be more. For instance, not every young working class adult can afford $200 monthly deposit on a checking account to qualify for SpotMe. Compared to a peer like CashApp, the need is eliminated.

But, I get it though. If one cannot afford to have $200 monthly deposit in a checking account, then one has no business borrowing. In a way, it makes borrowing a privilege rather than an automated right. Regardless, I still think it is cool we can still use Chime SpotMe at an ATM.
