Does Venmo Cash Checks Instantly?

Does Venmo Cash Checks Instantly?

Venmo cashes checks instantly. It is one of the best checking apps for instant cash out there. The app is designed to help you cash your check at your own convenience. All you need is to have a Venmo account and meet the eligibility for its Cash a check feature.

To create an account, you must meet the Venmo check cashing eligibility requirements. This includes the following below:

  • You must be in the United States of America.
  • Be the age of 18 or more.
  • Have a legal cell number from an American phone carrier.
  • Use your legal name. Not initially, but if you are going to add a debit card to your account, your legal name will be required due to regulatory reasons.

Once you meet these requirements, you can create a Venmo account. I would recommend downloading the latest version of the app to avoid issues. Now to deposit a check to Venmo, here is what you need to do.

Venmo Check Cashing

You can deposit a paper check on Venmo. This is as long as you have a phone to help you capture the images of the checks. Here is what I mean.

  • Login to Venmo.
  • Tap the Me button.
  • Tap Add money. You will see Cash a check.
  • Tap Cash a check button. You will be requested to enter details of the check. An example is amount of the amount.
  • Enter the amount. Then, take pictures of front and back of the check as instructed.
  • Tap Next and make sure your details are correct before the submission.

Compare to other easy instant mobile check deposit apps, Venmo does its check deposit differently. You have to wait for Venmo to approve your check. Once approved, you are to write VOID on the check and submit a final image of the check with VOID written across it.

Now, this is where most people mess up, my dear reader.

You are not supposed to write VOID across the check, until you get confirmation from Venmo saying you could. This is to avoid issues with Cash a check feature. In case of deposit issues, you want to be able to retry depositing your check. If you have written VOID across the check before Venmo tells you to, it automatically voids the check.

Simply put, you cannot cash it again. So, wait for Venmo to prompt you into doing this first. You can read about how to properly void a check, so you do not damaged your check.

Finally, Venmo will send you a confirmation page once your second image upload is confirmed. Your fund will be available immediately depending on the timeframe you have chosen.

How Long Does Venmo Take To Cash A Check?

It takes Venmo a few minutes to ten days to cash a check. Venmo will cash your checks instantly, but fund availability depends on whether you pay to have fund available minutes after deposit. Or, just ten days after the check deposit.

Venmo will present you with two options during review check details. You either pay a fee for an instant check deposit, or wait for more than a week for your fund. I would recommend using the 10 day wait period option, when you are not in a rush.

Does Venmo Cash Checks On Weekends?

No, Venmo does not cash checks on weekends. Any check deposit on the weekend is not processed, until the next business day. The next business day in this situation is Monday. Venmo considers weekends as non-business days.

You can read where to cash a check on Sunday for where you could go to cash checks on the weekend. Having said that, here is what you need to know about Venmo check cashing fee.

Venmo Check Cashing Fee

How much does it cost to cash a check on Venmo, my good reader?

Venmo charges a minimum of $5 per check. Additionally, there is a 1% fee for payroll and government checks and a 5% for other checks. This option will make your check funds available minutes after deposit.

For the other deposit option, it is free. However, you have to wait for ten days for your check funds to be available. I always recommend this option, when you do not want to pay to have your check fund available. If you do not like it, use CashApp to deposit your check and get it within two business days for free.

You can read how to deposit a check on CashApp. I explain how you could do it on the article. It is easier than setting up a social media account. No offense to the tech giants out there!

Venmo Check Cashing Limit

Venmo check cashing limit ranges from $5 to $5000. The minimum amount you can cash is $5, while the maximum is $5000. This is regardless of the amount of checks you cash; meaning all your checks cash per day must not exceed $5000 in value.

In a month, you can deposit up to $15,000 worth of checks. Be sure to endorse all your checks, so you will not have issues cashing them. Anyways, this is all you need to know about Venmo mobile check deposit limit.

Why Won’t Venmo Cash My Check?

If you are having trouble using the cash a check feature on Venmo, it is likely you are not abiding with Venmo check cashing policy. This includes uploading a legitimate check bearing the same legal name as the name on your account. Also, checks exceeding the Venmo check cashing limit will not be deposited as it violates the policy.

In addition, you cannot deposit a check on Venmo when the check is not properly endorsed. By endorsed here, I mean the check is signed to you. You can endorse a check by signing the back of your check.

Furthermore, checks whose images are blurred during the image capturing process, will not be accepted. This is because they will not pass the Venmo check approval process. Be sure to use a black background for your check, when taking the pictures for mobile check deposit.

Venmo will not cash your check, when you do not follow the cash a check feature instructions. If you miss a step, it will add to processing time and rejection. On that note, checks made out to someone other than you will not deposit. This is most especially, when it is a check which is going to be bounce.

On the whole, Venmo will cash your checks. This is as long as you abide by its policy. If not, you may run into issues pertaining Venmo cash a check feature. If none of Venmo check cashing policy appeals to you, read where to cash checks for free.
