This is as long as it is a money order, which is gotten from any of the Walmart locations. What do I mean by this, dear reader?
Walmart cashes money orders from Western Union. Cashing Western Union money orders at Walmart is allowed, as long as it is from one of its locations. The same goes with cashing a MoneyGram money order at Walmart. I will explain these later in the article.

What Kind Of Money Order Does Walmart Cash
Walmart cashes Western Union money orders and MoneyGram. These have to be issued by Walmart, otherwise they will not cashed at all. What does this mean for you?
It means MoneyGram and Western Union money orders from Western Union and MoneyGram locations will not be cashed by Walmart. Also, this includes money orders from your local bank and other money services. Finally, Walmart will not cash postal orders like USPS money orders.
As long as the money order does not say Walmart- as with typical Walmart WU and MoneyGram money orders, they will not accept it. While this is limited to money orders, cashing a cashier’s check at Walmart is allowed. Walmart will cash anything else from you. Do not ask me, I do not know why they have the policy in place.
What You Need To Cash A Money Order At Walmart
Cashing a money order at Walmart requires you come in with a valid and legal form of identification. This includes the following below:
- Passport
- Passport card
- State driver’s license
- Military ID
- Native American or Tribal ID
Your ID is needed to confirm the name on the money order is really you. Walmart will not ask for your social security number. I mentioned this fact, because there are some money order cashing places which may ask for this kind of information.
Walmart Money Order Cashing Fee
Walmart charges a fee to cash money orders. You can pay a cashing fee of $4 for money order with value less than $1000. In addition, money order values between $1000 and $4000 is charged an $8 cashing fee.
That is how much it costs to cash a money order at Walmart. Not bad, eh?
You can avoid all these fees though. All you need is a Walmart Money card. A Walmart money card is a prepaid debit card account at Walmart shoppers can purchase for a $1. All you need is to have more than $500 in it to enjoy fees waiver each time you purchase and cash money orders at Walmart.

Walmart Money Order Limit
The money order limit at Walmart is $1000 per order. You are allowed to cash up to $3000 per day from three different money orders. The maximum limit per month is $5000.
If you need more than these above amount, here are other places where you can cash a money order. Otherwise, visit your local bank to cash the money order. Please note your local bank may take one to three business days to release funds to you.
Walmart Money Order Hours
Walmart store opening times vary from place to place. Usually, it is open from 6am to 11pm. You can walk in within these store hours and go straight to the Walmart Money center (Customer Care). Just be sure to go with a government ID and a form of payment. A form of payment includes a debit card, traveler’s check or cash.
