How To Activate A Chime Card

Nowadays, online banks rule the world of most young working class adults. This is because of how convenient the services they provide are. Chime bank is one of the financial technologies which make it to my list of such banks. Its bank card not only makes life convenient for you, but also builds your credit history.

A while ago, I wrote about applying for a Chime card. Today, I am going to talk about how you could activate the card to be able to use it. You cannot use a chime card immediately after you get it. It has to be activated first like any other bank card.

So, how do you activate your Chime card?

There are three ways you could go about doing this. It can be done on the app. Or, you can activate your Chime card without the app by calling its customer care line.

Here is what I want you to go about doing the card activation.

How To Activate Chime Card In App

You can activate Chime card online through the app. Firstly, you have to download the app on google or Apple Store. Then, login to your account. Follow the instructions below:

  • Tap on Setting icon on the top left corner of the app.
  • Scroll down until you see Cards. Tap on it to open it.
  • Your virtual card should show up on the new page. Scroll down until you see Activate now.
  • Tap Activate now.
  • You will be asked to put in your 3-digit cvv number on the card. Then, tap on Next.
  • The next page will ask you to set up a 4-digit debit/atm pin for the card. Then, tap on Set pin to be taken to the next page.
  • Confirm pin and tap on Confirm pin to activate your chime card.

The above is the process to set up the card on the chime app. You do not have to do this, if you are not tech-savvy. There is another way to activate the Chime card without logging in. I will explain the process on the next series of paragraphs.

How To Activate Chime Card Without App

You can activate Chime card without the chime app. This is as long as you have your card with you. All you have to do is call the customer line to help you with the card activation. I actually think this is the easiest card activation for people who are not tech-savvy.

What Number Do You Call To Activate Your Chime Card?

The Chime card activation phone number is 844-244-6363. You can activate Chime card by phone using the number. You can call any time of the day you want.

Also, the customer line is open on weekends or during holidays. It is open all year long-365 days a year! This is great, is it not?

Well, not that other banks are not open 24/7, but I do appreciate financial institutions which let their customers reach out anytime. Speaking of calling to activate Chime debit card, you will need to have your social security number and card information ready. This is because these will be needed for security purposes and card activation.

How Long Does It Take To Activate Chime Card?

It takes a few minutes to activate Chime card. I think this depends on you. Depending on what route you want to use- on app versus phone call, it could determine how long it will take. But, it should not take you any longer than 3 minutes for chime card activation online and 5 minutes through the phone call.

This is my personal experience though.

It might differ from person to person. However, the fact still remains you could start using your Chime debit card as soon as you are done with the activation process. Below, I have written how you could check to make sure your card is ready for use.

How Do I Know If My Chime Card Is Activated?

You know the card has been activated, when you could make purchases with it. This is especially, when you have gone to these 9 Chime Locations To Make ATM Withdrawals. If you are able to access cash on your chime account, then your chime card is already set up.

Additionally, Chime is good at sending notification about your card being activated. This is often sent through a text message or to the email address you provided during your sign up. Such a notification is proof that the card is ready to be used.

So, be on the lookout for either one.

Finally, you can check to see your Chime card has been activated on the app itself. Here is what I want you do below:

  • Login to your chime account.
  • Tap on Setting icon.
  • Go to Cards. Tap on it.

You will see your card on this page. If it is not activated, there will be an option to activate the card. Activated cards do not have this option. It is how you know your Chime card activation worked. Personally, I like to try to purchase with the card to see if it will let me. I think it is the best way to check.

I have heard of people saying their Chime card failed to activate, despite the activation process. There are a lot of complaints on Reddit about this, so I called the customer service to ask what to do in such a case. Here are what they said to do below.

What Happens If A Chime Card Fails To Activate?

If your Chime card is not activating, it could be due to a number of reasons. Firstly, you could be putting the information wrong on the app. This is especially the 3-digit cvv number. If you make a mistake with it, it will not go through since it is wrong.

Secondly, the app could be having a network issue. In this situation, you may want to wait some hours and try it again. If not, then it is time to call the customer care to see whether your chime card can be activated through a phone call.

Assuming the customer care says the card is still not activating on their end, there is a high chance the card has been reported as stolen or lost. Chime usually deactivated a card reported as either stolen or lost. I would recommend asking for a new card to be sent to you. This is because there is nothing you can do about it now.

On the whole, you can activate Chime debit card with ease. As long as the card is not stolen or lost, you should not experience any issue doing it. You can either activate via the app, or call the customer care to do it. To fund and start using your card, consider using these 6 Best Places To Load A Chime Card Instantly.
