A Netspend card is easy to reload. It is one of those prepaid cards, which offers traditional banking benefits without the need of a bank account. To be use it in transactions, you have to add money to a Netspend card.
Personally, I am a proponent of using prepaid debit cards. This is since it lets you budget your money efficiently. You only get to spend whatever amount you put on your card. There is no borrowing or interest, which puts you in debt.
Now to the matter at hand, there are many ways to load a Netspend card with cash. You can either do it through a reload store location, gas station or direct deposit amongst other means. Below are what I want you to know about this.

1. Netspend Reload Locations
Netspend has more than 130,000 card load locations across the United States. Chances are there is a location very close to you right now. I am talking about gas stations, pharmacies and chain stores.

- Walgreens
- Dollar General
- Family Dollar
- Kroger
- Publix
- Food Lion
- HEB
- Rite Aid
- Dollar Tree
Any one of these locations will help you put money on a Netspend card. I encourage you call first before heading out to a store or pharmacy location. This is because not all store locations of a reload location can help you load money on your Netspend card.
What Gas Stations Reload Netspend Cards?
Besides the above stores, there are some gas stations which reload Netspend cards. I do not know whether the gas station in my cities are in yours, but here are some nationwide gas stations where you could do it.
- Circle K
- Speedway
- 7-Eleven
- Murphy USA
- Love’s TravelStops

2. Bank Transfers
You can add money to a Netspend card through bank transfers. Your card needs to be activated first, prior to doing a bank transfer to your card. Also, the incoming transfer has to be from a bank in the United States. You will need your Netspend account number, routing number and account name.
How do I get my Netspend routing and account number?
Just login to the mobile app. Then, tap on menu to see Direct deposit. Scroll down and tap on Direct deposit to see your Netspend routing and account number.
There is another way you could do this without logging in. You can simply text DIRECT to 22622 and the above information will be sent to you shortly. Text charges may apply, so be aware.

How long does Netspend take to deposit a check?
Expedited checks take a few minutes to a few hours for funds to be available. While this is the case, free check deposits take at least one day for your fund to be available. Speaking of check fees, here is what I want you to know about them below.
How Much Does Netspend Charge For Mobile Check Load?
If you want the fund available asap, then your mobile check load will cost you more than 1.5% of check total plus a minimum of $5. It depends on whether you are trying to expedite a government check or regular check. A pre-signed check (government or payroll checks) will cost you more than 1.5% of total check amount or a minimum of $5. All other kind of checks will cost more than 4.5% of the total check amount or a minimum of $5, when you try to expedite them.
Otherwise, it is free to add money to a Netspend card through a mobile check load. The only cost is your patience. You have to wait up to three business days.
Personally, I do not think it is bad. I would rather wait, than pay 2% plus $5 minimum fee. Yeah I know- I am stingy with my money. I would rather spend that on a Macdonald’s strawberry smoothie. And, it will be money well spent!
4. PayPal Transfer
You can add money on Netspend card through a PayPal transfer. All you need is a PayPal account and a linked Netspend prepaid debit card. Below is how you could do the transfer.
- Login to paypal
- scroll to send and request on the top navigation bar.

- Put in the amount you want to send.
- Select Debit card deposit
- Put in your verification details. This includes your name, address and date of birth.
- Select which of your credit card, debit card or bank account you want the deduction to be from.
Before this would work, make sure the address on your Paypal matches the one on your Netspend card. This is to avoid verification issues. Otherwise, everything will work just fine.
5. Debit Card Transfer
You can use another linked debit card to fund your Netspend account. Then, access the fund using your Netspend card. Up to three debit cards can be linked to your account through this method. Visa or Mastercard debit cards from other financial institutions are accepted.
6. Direct Deposit
I try to send a tiny portion of my paycheck to Netspend, so I can use its prepaid card for expenses. That way, there will not be any reason to dig into my savings to spend. You can add money to a Netspend card through direct deposit.
You just take your Netspend routing and account numbers to your HR department. Tell them what percentage of your paycheck you want going into Netspend account. Once it is deposited, you can access your funds through your card.
Adding money to a Netspend card through direct deposit does not have to be from your employer alone. It could be a government check. This includes social security or benefits check.
7. Receive Money From Other Netspend Users
You can receive money by letting people send you money using your FlashPay ID. Just tell the person to login to his or her Netspend account. Then, use the Send Money feature to send you money. It is one of the ways you could load a Netspend card.
How Much Can You Load On A Netspend Card?
You can load up to $2500 on your Netspend account in 24 hours. This is a maximum limit for anyone using the reload locations to do it. Any other approaches I mentioned above has different limits.
Here is what I mean.
Netspend card reloads by direct deposit has a maximum daily limit of $7500. The maximum you can have in direct deposit within a month is $15,000. This is also the monthly limits on Netspend card reloads.
Personally, I do not perform transactions of this size with Netspend. I just use it to handle little monthly expenses like my car gas bills. You add a little money to the card and set automatic bill deductions every month. Easy peasy!
