- A dissatisfied transaction with a merchant will still process. When it does, it does not mean it is an unauthorized transaction. This is especially when it is a transaction you consented for.
- Finally, disputes on unauthorized transactions include fraud cases, stolen or lost credit card are taken serious. These are transactions you do not recognize or authorized.

Here is what to do before reaching out to Capital One.
- In case of merchant dispute, reach out to the merchant first. Be sure to have proper documentation of the billing error or dispute. This includes the time of transaction, the amount, the date and proof of reason why you are submitting your dispute. Sometimes, merchants are willing to work with you on issues concerning charge disputes. This is especially, when it violates their terms and conditions.
- Depending on the merchant, the process may take 60 days. It helps to inquire the processing time from the merchant, so you can have a timeline in case you decide to file a dispute with Capital One.
In case the merchant refuses to resolve the issue, you can reach out to Capital One. Here is how you can dispute a charge with Capital One.
- Login to your Capital One account. You can do it through its mobile app or online services.
- Choose the account type where the transaction happened.
- Click on All Transaction. If you are using the Capital One app, tap on Recent Transactions and then View All Transaction.
- Finally, tab on Report a problem. Following the instructions to determine your eligibility for dispute.
If you are not eligible to submit a charge dispute, call the customer service at the Capital One credit card dispute phone number: 1-800-227-4825. Be sure to have all your documentation around, because they will ask you questions pertaining to the disputed transaction.
Capital One Credit Card Dispute Time Limit
I recommend filing a dispute on credit card charge at Capital One as soon as you can. According to Capital One, you have about 60 days to file it from the day the transaction got posted. Sometimes, the transaction will not show on your statement until five days later.
Either way, be sure to file within the time frame given. Even if your issue with the merchant has not been resolved within 60 days. This is just to be on the safe side, since merchants rarely resolve a charge dispute anyways.
On the whole, this is basically how dispute work with Capital One. It is easy to dispute with Capital One, when it is not a transaction you authorized. Your chance of winning the dispute is fair, when it is a credit card fraud. It helps too, to have supporting documents to supporting your claim.
How Long Does Capital One Take To Settle A Dispute?
Capital One card dispute takes up to 90 days to get settled. It depends on the circumstances involving the credit card charge. Sometimes, it may take longer.
In addition, Capital One can refund unauthorized charges after investigation. Be sure to back to where I talked about what is unauthorized transactions on your credit card. Merchant transactions do not constitute unauthorized charges, since Capital One does not refund on behalf of merchants.
So, be aware of these things when you file a dispute at Capital One. Also, note there may be a chance your dispute may not work. Credit card companies are always looking after their own interests.
