The Chase account opening requirements are:
- You have to be eighteen years old or more.
- Be a US citizen, US permanent resident or non-US nationals with proper forms of identification.
- A minimum initial deposit to set up the Chase bank account.
The above are must-have requirements for Chase bank account. Additionally, there are other documents you need to present to the bank before they consider you as a customer. Here is what I want you to know below.
What Do You Need To Open A Bank Account At Chase?
So, what do you need to open a bank account at Chase?
For opening a Chase bank account, you are going to need to show proof of residence and age. For US citizens, you need two forms of ID for the bank account sign up. Chase calls it primary and secondary forms of identifications.
The primary form of identification includes the following below:
- Driver’s License
- Social security card
- Or, birth certificate
- Native American tribal identification card or other federal IDs.
The above are acceptable forms of ID for chase bank account opening for American born potential customers. Chase recommends you bring one of the above mentioned and another secondary form of identification. It could be driver’s license and social security card.
Or, one of the primary and another document showing the proof of residency needed to open a Chase account. Here is what I mean.
You could bring one of the above listed primary ID plus a bill statement. The bill statement could be from your utility bills or any bill with your current address on it. Additionally, any bank statement less than 60 days can suffice as a secondary form of ID. Your student ID too, if you already have one of the primary IDs.
Also, any of the following forms of identifications below could work for US citizens.
- ATM cards- credit or debit cards from banks or Chase.
- A Chase or Bank Issued Credit/Debit Card
- Employer ID with photos
- Monthly Paystubs
- Lease or mortgage document
If you are a permanent resident or a resident without green card leaving in the US, your Chase account opening requirements are different. Below, I have written what forms of ID you need for a bank account at Chase.

You can open a Chase bank, if you are not a permanent US resident. This is as long as you reside in the States. It is because you need a US address to open a Chase account. US residents without green cards are required to present a primary and a secondary form of ID.
Here are examples of what qualify as a primary and a secondary forms of ID for US residents without green cards.

- Your green card, also known as permanent resident card.
- Birth Certificate. This is for teens under the age of 18, whose parents are Chase members trying to create an account for them. I talked about this on Opening Chase Checking Account For Minors.
- A US driver’s license
- International passport. Your country’s passport could do the job, since you do not have a US passport yet.
- Social Security Card (minors/seniors/disabled)
- Tribal or Bureau of Indian Affairs w/photo (U.S.)
- U.S. Employment Authorization Card.
