How To Overdraft Cash App At ATM

How To Overdraft Cash App At ATM

You can overdraft on Cash App, but there are some restrictions on what you can overdraft on. The restriction is you cannot overdraft the cash card at an ATM. Despite this restriction, I am still able to overdraft my balance at an ATM using a Cash App card. Just not the way the overdraft feature works, since it is created for payment of services.

Here is what I mean.

ATM overdrafts are not allowed using the overdraft feature. However, I have a way around the restriction. You can simply borrow using the Cash App Borrow feature and withdraw the available balance. I know- it sounds like common sense but it will not work when you do not meet the cash borrow requirements.

I talked about the requirements on a personal review of Cash App borrow feature. It is a great read, so I recommend you read it. Everything from qualifying and maintaining the feature, I elaborated on there.

Anyways, borrowing and cashing out is how I always do it. I borrow money from Cash App, then I go to an ATM and withdraw it. I am going to walk you through it on this article. But first, let us talk a little about the cash borrow feature so you have an idea of what it is like to borrow from the financial technology.

Borrowing Money From Cash App

So, how does borrowing from Cash App work?

Well, you have to be qualified to borrow first. It is the regular legal requirement for American financial services plus a few other things. Here is what I mean by regular legal requirement below.

  • You have to be a legal adult. That is be at the age of eighteen or above.
  • Have a Cash App card.
  • Set up a Cash App direct deposit with +$300 coming in every month. This is easy to do, when you set a certain portion of your paycheck going in automatically. Otherwise, it is going to be alittle tough getting direct deposits in. This is unless you have other monthly checks coming in from approved direct deposits.
  • Be in a state which allows the borrow feature. That is one thing I forgot to mention. So not all States in the US, allow some Cash App features. For example, Colorado residents do not have access to the borrow feature. Currently, there are about 30 states who allow this feature to function within their territories.

So, I would check to see whether my state qualifies if I were you. This is because you could still meet the other requirements, but get denied in a state which prohibits the Cash App borrow feature. As long as you meet the above requirements, the borrow feature should be accessible to you.

How Do You Overdraft On Cash App At ATMs?

As I previously mentioned, I borrow first to make a balance available for me to withdraw at an ATM. Here is how I go about it.

  • Login to your Cash App account.
  • Tap on the home icon on the bottom left of your app.
  • If your Cash App borrow is set up, you should see a Borrow tab. Tap on it and Cash App will show you the limit you are allowed to borrow. Yes, there is a Cash App borrow limit.
  • Tap on Borrow tab. Different amounts will be shown to you to choose. On my Cash App account, it shows as $20, $40, $60, $80, $95 and custom amount. The custom amount is where you type a different amount than the ones presented.
  • Once you choose your amount, tap on Borrow. Then, agree to terms and conditions of the cash being given to you. Finally, the amount will be made available in your balance.

All you have to do, is go to any ATM and cash out the balance. Obviously, this is going to be the same way you usually cash out using a debit card. There is nothing different.

The above is how I usually overdraft more than I have on cash app at an ATM. This is especially, when I do not have enough in my account to withdraw. Before you embark on this, I want you to know you may be charged a fee for withdrawing cash through Cash App card via ATMs.

But, this depends on whether you qualify for a fee-free ATM withdrawals. I am going to elaborate on this fee below.

Where Can I Withdraw Money From Cash App For Free?

Not all ATM charges a free for Cash App ATM withdrawal. There are some free in-network ATM withdrawals. However, you need an active green status to get fee-free withdrawals when you overdraft Cash App on an ATM. I discussed about these Cash App green benefits on a recent article I wrote – Is Cash App Green Status Worth It?.

You see, there are many benefits to having a green status on Cash App. Besides fee-free in-network ATM withdrawals, you also get the following below:

  • Higher interest rate on savings
  • You get a free overdraft coverage
  • Priority access to customer care
  • You can borrow higher than the usual limits in some states.

There are other benefits to having this status. I want you to read the article I recommended above to see more about this feature. This is especially how you can qualify for it.

Furthermore, you can earn Cash App green status by spending at least $500 monthly, or having a monthly direct deposit of at least $300. Once activated, an overdraft at an ATM during a withdrawal will not cost you money. This is true for in-network ATMs.

Otherwise, Cash App charges $2.50 for in-network ATM withdrawals. If you do out-of-network ATMs, the operator will charge extra. Simply put, you may be charged in addition to the financial technology’s usual $2.50 fee for in-network ATM withdrawals. Cash App used to reimburse the out-of-network ATM charges, but as of 11/05/2025, it stopped doing it.

On the whole, this is how I usually overdraft more than I have on my Cash App balance. As you can see, you cannot use the overdraft feature and cash out using a Cash App. So, you have to do it the way I do it to get more than your current balance. I highly recommend How To Overdraft Cash App, as an intro to everything on the topic.
