How To Deposit A Check On Chime App

I am an advocate of young working class adults using financial technologies. This is because they make life very easy and convenient for a whole lot of us. Chime is one of such financial technologies. Like a majority of other mobile check deposit apps out there, it has a check deposit feature which allows you to make mobile check deposit.

This growing financial technology company is able to do this, because it uses Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank to provide its banking services. As a result, it is secured. Not only secured, but also it is FDIC insured for anyone who wants to keep their funds on their Chime accounts after deposit.

Anyways, you do not have to worry about issues, when you try to cash a check on Chime. This is as long as you follow my instructions here. Having said that, here is how to go about mobile depositing a check on Chime.

How Check Deposit Work On Chime

You can deposit a paper check on Chime. All you have to do, is take a picture of your check on Chime and input the correct check amount before submitting it. I know this sounds easy and it actually is.

Here is how Chime mobile check deposit works.

  • Open the Chime app.
  • On the bottom of your app, tap Move Money.
  • Tap on Mobile Check Deposit.
  • You will be asked what kind of check you want to deposit. Select the appropriate one.
  • Enter the amount on the check.
  • Take two clear pictures of the check. One is the front and the back of the check. Be sure the back of the check is endorsed to avoid fund availability delay. Endorsing a check is what you write on the back of the check. It is usually your signature.
  • Review everything to make your input is correct and pictures are clear.
  • Tap Submit.

Once you submit it, the check is on its way of being processed. To reiterate, it is important to make sure everything is correct on the review step to avoid fund delay. Also, endorsing a check for Chime mobile deposit is important otherwise your check will not be deposited.

Although you can deposit a check on Chime, not everyone is eligible for depositing a check on the app. This is what you need to know about Chime mobile check deposit.

What Checks Can I Deposit In Chime?

Chime cashes personal checks. You can deposit any government-approved checks, which includes tax refunds, social security, business or cashier’s checks. Chime does not cash third party checks, when you are not authorized to cash it.

Money orders, written notes, traveler’s check or starter’s checks are not eligible for deposit. Your check has to follow the company’s policy, for Chime to do instant mobile check deposit for you. You can try to use these other 8 Best Online Banks With Instant Mobile Check Deposit to cash checks Chime considers ineligible for deposit.

How Long It Takes Chime To Deposit A Chime

Depositing a check with Chime could be instant. It depends on what kind of check you want to deposit with Chime. What do I mean by this?

Usually, it takes Chime one to five business days to clear your check. Fund availability depends on whether there is an issue with the check you deposited. Fund available happens fast, when you already after setting up Chime direct deposit.

This is compared to not having a direct deposit set up on your Chime account. I have observed Chime check deposit fund availability depends on what kind of check was deposited. Here is what I mean below.

Type of check depositedchime mobile check deposit funds availability
Paychecks or checks from the governmentOne to three business days
Other kind of checksCould take up to ten business days
Cashier’s checkthree to five business days

From the above, you could see why having a direct deposit set up on Chime is important. Checks coming in through that route is quicker than other kinds of checks. Your payroll or treasury checks deposit quicker than other kinds of checks.

When To Deposit A Check On Chime?

When it comes to Chime mobile check deposit, there is no Chime mobile check deposit cut off time. Chime can deposit checks on weekends too. Issues which could affect check fund availability on Chime include:

  • A check which is not endorsed.
  • Writing an incorrect amount when filling out the check deposit feature.
  • A large check. The bigger the check value, the longer it may take to process. A $1500 check deposits quicker than a $6000 check.
  • A blurred image of your check affects its processing time.
  • Deposit time can affect fund availability too. If you deposit on the weekends or holiday, Chime does not operate on the weekends or holiday. I mean the check will deposit, but the check processing time is on business days which are Monday through Friday.

Mostly, this is common sense. I recommend you follow the same procedure as depositing a check at your bank. Make sure you sign the back of the check, upload a clear picture of the check and review the amount you put on the app before submitting it. When you do these things, your check processing time will be short.

Who Is Eligible For Mobile Check Deposit On Chime

You can do a mobile check deposit with Chime as a member. Not just any member, but a member with the Chime direct deposit feature set up. This includes receiving a direct deposit of at least $1 from a payroll or your company.

On How To Set Up Chime Direct Deposit guide, I showed a step by step approach to setting up direct deposit on Chime for free. This is if you have not set up your Chime direct deposit already. You cannot use the mobile check deposit feature on Chime without setting up Chime direct deposit first.

Besides being able to deposit a check on Chime app, there are benefits to setting up a direct deposit. This includes having your Chime direct deposits available earlier than most banks would have them. So, be sure to set it up to be eligible for mobile check deposit on Chime.

Chime Mobile Check Deposit Limit

How big of a check can Chime deposit, my good reader?

You can deposit a paper check on Chime of up to $2000 value. There is a maximum amount of $10,000 per month. To increase this amount, you have to deposit more than this amount through direct deposit to your Chime account every month. According to Chime, this does not guarantee it will increase your mobile check deposit limit.

Additionally, Chime mobile check deposit limit differs from member to member. To see your limit, follow these steps below on the Chime app.

  • Open your Chime app.
  • Tap on Settings.
  • Go to Account Info.
  • Tap the View Limits to see your limits.

What you see, is the maximum you can deposit through Chime mobile check features. If you have any questions pertaining to increasing the limit, you can call the customer service. It is available 24 hours and 7 days a week.

Why Chime Would Reject A Check

When Chime is unable to verify your check, it results in your check bouncing right back to you. Additionally, Chime will reject your mobile check deposit due to the following reasons below:

  • Firstly, your check is not endorsed. You did not sign on the back of the check.
  • Secondly, you tried to cash an expired check on Chime.
  • Thirdly, you deposited a traveler’s check, money orders or promissory note.
  • Finally, Chime will reject your check when your input is not the same as what is on the check. Or, the picture you took is either blurry or shows a check with creases hiding some vital information.

You will save yourself a lot of time and headache, when you deposit checks the right way on Chime. Or else, your fund availability may take up to five days to deposit. You and I know no hardworking working class adult has the kind of patience it takes to wait that long!

On the whole, to deposit a check on Chime app requires you abide by its terms and conditions. This is following the steps outline here. Also, you can check these other 4 ways to deposit money on Chime. Each way is as convenient as Chime mobile check deposit.
